Skokomish creation story tells of the Dog Salmon, who danced from the water to the land where the Hood Canal and Skokomish River meet. Now human, they were known as Twana Indians and lived in longhouses, hunted, and fished like other coastal people. Sweetgrass was used to weave intricate baskets, which they have come to be recognized for around the world. The Skokomish continue to carry on the traditions handed down from generations passed. Visit the Tribal Center and Museum that to see wood carvings, masks, totems, original hunting and fishing tools, and bead work from the previous centuries.
